Rain or Shine Come to the Street Fair

Get ready to welcome the sev­enth annual Broadway Street Fair on Saturday, Oct. 12, rain or shine. More than 200 artisans, makers and food vendors will line the main thoroughfare to welcome cus­tomers at 11:30 a.m. Local bands and entertainers start at noon. As with previous years, this event is free and open to the public.
 
The Street Fair begins “on the Rainbow Crosswalk” at Equality Park with fine artists, crafters, makers and specialty food pur­veyors lining the family-friendly route which extends into historic Washington Square. Equality Park to Marlborough Street is open until 4 p.m. and from Marlborough Street into Washington Square until 8 p.m. Folks can explore and find their inner artists doing chalk art, plein air painting and sketching and kids paint parties with Mer­maid Masterpieces, grab a quick snack at numerous food trucks and local vendors and then enjoy the exciting visuals of the Providence Drum Troupe marching near the historic Old Colony House. Check out the car show, watch a pasta demonstration, or grab a cold beer or glass of wine at the Newport Vineyards Beyond Broadway Beer Garden located at Provence Sur Mer.
 

The afternoon fun continues until 8 p.m. with headline performances at the Old Colony House stage by Blues Legend James Montgomery, Ryan Lee Crosby and twilight sets by Steve Smith and The Nakeds.

It is strongly encouraged that guests walk, bike, or take the bus to the Street Fair. For those that do intend to drive, note that Broadway will be open to pedestrian traffic only. No parking will be available on Broadway. There will be hand­icap accessible parking close to the route. This year’s event is being brought to the public with the generous support of the fair’s presenting sponsor Peoples Credit Union and through the efforts of the City of Newport, Virgin & Aged, Little Rhody Pasta, the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce, SoundAd­vice, A1 Roofing & Construction, Newport Tent Company / Peak Event Services, Discover Newport, Greenleaf Compassion Center, Re­newal by Andersen, BedJet / Aramli Foundation, Newport This Week, and various other local businesses.

All are welcome for a planning meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 2 and for volunteer orientation on Wednesday, Oct. 9, both at 6 p.m. at the Newport Police Station commu­nity room, 120 Broadway, Newport.
