Founded in 1922 and renamed after Dr. King in 1968, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center (MLK Community Center) is a multi-service provider for at-risk and underserved individuals, families and children in support of its mission to nourish, educate, and support Newport County, Rhode Island residents to improve their economic and social well-being. An independent non-profit, the Center served 3,654 individuals in 2019, the most in its history. Less than 2.8% of Center public support comes from federal, state and local government funding.
